Link Building is Getting Obsolete, Why?

Those who have been in the search engine optimization business long enough know that SEO is not static. It is dynamic and strategies that worked quite well at one time don’t necessarily work that way today. There are many reasons why a tactic that worked desirably well once starts to lose its power, and some even go to the extent of both losing their effectiveness and becoming a drawback to the efforts of SEO.

Link building has been a formidable SEO tactic for a long time, but now appears to be getting obsolete. It is not easy to understand why it would appear so, but here are two reasons why this well known strategy somehow looks like it is getting outmoded in the world of SEO.

  • The shift towards content marketing

Content marketing is an approach of link building that uses great content to attract links that you identify as important. This requires for a website designer to constantly and continually write great content on a particular subject because the most recently done content is placed at the top of SERPs. Content marketing today will see a website designer concentrate more on creating great and perfect content rather than spend time pursuing links.

This new approach in SEO, and the great success from strategies such as info graphics, shows signs that link building, as it was, is now getting obsolete. As a link builder, you may have to change your old thinking of finding new sites to link from and start thinking of the content type you need to create in order to get the social traction and links that will keep your website going with the all important rankings.

  • Appreciation of the quality of links rather than quantity

If you are just starting on your website or have been established for some time, you should know it’s all about quality and not quantity of links when it comes to SEO for the search engines today. In the early years of link building, it was easy for someone to just put together valueless content to get tons of inbound links and achieve great rankings. That was when quantity was the determining factor of how a site was ranked.

Today, the quality of a link is what matters most, so much so that with a single back link from an authoritative site that has established itself as a website of value, a website is able to outrank a site that has hundreds of links from sites of little value. The direction is further emphasized by the way social medial has turned out to be the new source of inbound links that matter. For more info about SEO, just visit Top3.com.sg.
